The Port Neches-Groves Independent School District (PN-G ISD) Technology Plan is supported by a $123 million bond of which $6,951,113 is dedicated to technology. The current plan includes the years 2010-2013. Because of the funds dedicated to technology, I believe that PN-G ISD is the leader in technology in Southeast Texas. In fact, this district is above average when the expenditure per student is broken down. PN-G ISD will spend $160.56 per student each of the next three years which is quite an increase to the estimated $46.57 spent in other districts in 2011 for each student (Holub, 2007).
The plan outlines the assessment process, reviews existing conditions, and defines the district’s technology needs. In addition, the technology department provides an ongoing evaluation process, with a review of effectiveness of the new technologies and telecommunications. The hope is that the increase in technology will expand job opportunities and enhance curriculum needs (Port Neches-Groves ISD, 2010).
The PN-G ISD Technology Plan specifies four goals: To adapt current tools of technology in education, provide professional development which facilitates learner-centered curricula, include technology when determining educational-impacted decisions, and to ensure a competent infrastructure. For teachers, the plan promises staff development as new technology arrives and encourages teachers to pursue TEA technology certifications. Each campus will have an instructional technology specialist to support teachers and specifies continuing education for the specialist to keep abreast of the new technology in the future.
